WOWT and Fareway have partnered to honor our heartland families who are actively serving in the military.
Each month, we honor a military family in Heartland Homefront.
This month, we introduce you to a military husband and wife. They met while deployed in Iraq.
Tyler Beck, a sergeant with the Army National Guard talks about his career as a soldier. "Going on 10 years now - coming up on September 29th."
Tyler is back in Omaha, now with his three kids: Izabel, Izaac, and Elzy. They were all there to meet him at the airport.
Tyler had just gotten home the night before we met him. His bag was still packed and sitting in the entryway. He said he didn't even start unpacking because his kids were so excited to see him.
"The whole way home, Elzy just kept saying, 'hi daddy, hi daddy,'" Tyler said. "She was waving at me.”
Elzy may not be able to say much yet. But daddy
Her big sis Izabel is thrilled her dad is home, too.
Tyler's wife, Jessica Beck, said, "She couldn’t wait to tell him all about kindergarten. She started kindergarten this year."
Jessica holds down the fort with their three kids at home. This military lifestyle isn’t something new to her. Tyler said, "She was a medic and we met over in Iraq. I noticed how caring she was. She was always willing to help people out."
They’ve been married more than six years. Although Tyler’s home now, he plans on many more trips and many more years as a soldier.
"Just knowing what your serving for is just protecting the greatest country on earth," he said.
We’re sharing the stories of area military families here on Heartland Homefront on the first Tuesday of each month. The families featured in our coverage each receive a $250 grocery gift card. If you would like to nominate a family for consideration, click here
