Staff Sergeant James Upshaw is serving in Kuwait.
“I miss hugging him," Kayla said. "I miss him helping me with my homework. I miss him because he likes to do silly things.”
The Upshaw children recently had a surprise visit from their Dad. They said their favorite memory was jumping into his arms.
Upshaw’s co-workers speak highly of the Staff Sergeant. They said even though Upshaw is in a war zone, he sends messages reminding them to smile and enjoy their day - an inspiration to many in the office.
Upshaw will return home from his tour of duty in May. He has been serving in the military for 16 years and plans to retire in the next few years.
We’re going to be sharing the stories of area military families here on Heartland Homefront on the first Tuesday of each month. The families featured in our coverage will each receive a $250 grocery gift card. If you would like to nominate a family for consideration, click here.
