The kind of U.S. Savings Bond many of us received from grandpa is being phased out. The Bureau of the Public Debt says beginning January 1, 2012, paper savings bonds will no longer be sold at financial institutions. Electronic savings bonds will be sold. It’s part of the Department of Treasury’s goal to increase the number of electronic transactions with the public.
A federal judge in Florida has denied bail for a Muslim cleric from Miami charged with aiding Pakistani terrorists. U.S. District Judge Adalberto Jordan denied 76-year-old Hafiz Khan's latest request to be released from the Federal Detention Center. The judge said the prosecution's case is "particularly strong."
