Young Driver Involved In Crash

A teenage driver may have fallen asleep, according to police, and caused a three-vehicle crash.

The collision occurred about 2:45pm Sunday on Highway 75 at Highway 66. All vehicles were southbound.

A juvenile from Omaha was driving a 2008 Jeep Liberty when that vehicle struck the rear of a 2003 Toyota Matrix driven by Robert Mitchell, age 34, of Bellevue. The Toyota in turn struck the rear of a 2012 Mazda M5 driven by Heather Ritzman, age 42, of Beaver Lake.

The Cassgram reports the juvenile stated that he may have fallen asleep. The juvenile and Mitchell were both transported to Bellevue Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor. All seatbelts were in use.

Plattsmouth EMS sent one squad to that accident scene and Murray Fire and Rescue also responded with a squad. Meanwhile, another Plattsmouth EMS squad took an EMS member to the hospital after the volunteer suffered an ankle injury at the stationhouse just after the accident call was received, according to dispatch reports.
