The 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships got underway Sunday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
The competition will help determine who will represent the United States at the Olympics next year. The event will culminate next Saturday, but meanwhile, fans can see some of the best figure skaters in the world compete every day this week.
“This was a gift from my soon to be son-in-law, a day for us to spent together,” said Jean Fielder of Omaha.
“I think it's great, it's fun, lots of things to look at and watch,” said Mary Anderson of Hastings.
“It's really exciting, it's fun to see this event come to town,” said Sadie Fielder of Omaha. “We are longtime skating fans. We've come to a lot of events in the past.”
This is the first time Omaha has hosted the competition since 1967 when Peggy Fleming won the fourth of her five U.S. titles. Last year's U.S. championships were held in San Jose.
