Update: Woman Wounded In Drive-By Shooting

A Bellevue woman was hospitalized after being wounded in a drive-by shooting in Omaha Sunday morning.

Police say 21-year-old Shampaine Saxton was sitting in the passenger seat of a car near 40th and Fowler just after midnight when someone drove by and opened fire.

A neighbor and her 18-year-old daughter who spoke to Channel 6 News did not want to be identified. The shooting happened right in front of their home. "It was a boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I thought someone was banging on my door. My daughter woke me up and said, mom, someone just got shot in front of our house."

After Saxton was shot, they say their next door neighbors came and took her inside. "She didn't know she was wounded until the ambulance told her. I didn't know she was wounded either until she was brought out on the stretcher."

The latest shooting has left the neighborhood on edge and a mother in disbelief that the violence hit so close to home. "It makes me feel terrible. I could have got shot, my daughter could have got shot."

Neighbors tell Channel 6 News that Saxton was shot in the arm. Police confirmed her injuries are not life threatening.

It's still not clear what led up to the shooting. Residents say several people were arguing in the middle of the street right before the shots were fired.
