Omaha police have identified the young woman killed in a crash near Aksarben Village Friday morning.
Nineteen-year-old Alexandra Bedel was driving home from a friend's house when she lost control of her SUV and over-corrected, smashing into a tree in the Spring Acres apartment complex just off 69th and Wright Plaza around 3:45 a.m.
She died on the way to Alegent Creighton Medical Center. Police do not believe speed was a factor. They expect results from an autopsy on Saturday to provide more answers.
“She always wore her heart on her sleeve, she was always there for all of her friends and put everybody before herself,” said her aunt, Jan Bacino.
Family members say Bedel was on summer vacation after just finishing her second year at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. “She was dedicated to her studies, always was aiming for the highest, that and her friends and her family, that was her world."
As an only child, she leaves behind her mother, several family members and numerous friends. “We are really going to miss Alex so bad,” said her uncle, Paul Bacino.
