A Glenwood, Iowa woman is facing prison time for stealing nearly $165,000 in Social Security payments that were meant for someone else.
Sixty-one-year-old Marlene Lucille Moore has been sentenced to six months in prison followed by six months of home confinement. She’ll then face three years of supervised release and she’s been ordered to make restitution for the stolen funds.
Ms. Moore pleaded guilty to the charges in July.
Authorities say that a bank account had been set up to receive checks for an eligible Social Security recipient. That person died in 2001 but investigators say Moore removed money from the account from 2001 until August 2012, taking a total of $164,852.
She has been ordered to repay all of that money.
