A homeless Lincoln woman and her grandson were found in a vacant house, living in conditions said to be unfit for humans.
The 52-year-old woman and 10-year-old boy were discovered early Tuesday morning in the vacant home at 25th and O Streets. Police said there was no electricity or running water and rotting food and dirty dishes were everywhere.
The two were wearing soiled clothing, using candles for light and a bucket for their bathroom. The temperature inside the home was around freezing.
They had been staying at the People's City Mission, but it's unclear why they left. "I have no clue as to why she didn't stay at the mission,” said Pastor Tom Barber. “Wish she would've because it would have been a lot better place than obviously where she ended up."
The woman has been cited for child neglect and criminal trespass. We are not naming her to protect the identity of the child.
