A 22-year-old Grand Island woman cried as a judge sentenced her to 18 to 20 years in prison for killing an elderly man in a traffic accident while high on methamphetamine.

Britteney Baker was sentenced for motor vehicle homicide. She had pleaded no contest in December.

Prosecutors say Baker's car crossed the center line and struck a three-wheeled motorcycle 80-year-old Donald McCarville was driving. The Grand Island man died at the scene of the June 12 crash.

Baker initially lied to police and said the driver had fled the accident. Later she admitted being the driver.

Baker said in a statement that she was sorry for what she had done.

In addition to the prison sentence, Baker won't be allowed to drive for 15 years after her release.
