An Omaha woman is hoping to win big with an invention that will help keep women safe while also keeping them stylish at the same time.
Angela Lee has spent the last two years creating and marketing the “SholdIt”. It’s a scarf with a zippered pocket to discreetly carry everyday items women just can't do without.
The idea came after lee's cell phone fell out of the back pocket of her jeans.
“It kind of struck me like lightning and I was wearing a scarf at the time,” says Lee.
But an idea can't ever be a reality, without actually trying it out.
“I went to Mangelsen's and bought a $20 dollar sewing machine and called my mom and she gave me a five minute tutorial on how to use it,” says Lee.
The 30-year-old then found a manufacturer in Omaha and now sells her creation online and at trade shows across the country.
“Knowing that your valuables are right there in front of you versus having a backpack or strap that someone can cut it's great. A pickpocket or mugger is going to think your just wearing a scarf.”
Lee is hoping to branch out into licensing for college and professional sports teams and she knows that dream will too become reality.
“No matter where you come from if you’re driven and you believe in yourself you can get anywhere you want to be,” says Lee.
The SholdIt” runs between $49-$79.
You can find it at Shields, Husker Hounds, Husker Express, The Afternoon, Bravadas, or online.
The website is listed at the bottom of the story.
