Jackpot! For the first time since 2006, Powerball is raining money on Nebraska. A winning ticket was sold at the Speedee Mart in Gretna but, so far, the winner is keeping quiet.
The last time the game shone on the Cornhusker State, eight co-workers at a Lincoln ham plant claimed the prize. After taxes, each walked away with $15 million.
This time around, the person who holds the winning ticket from Gretna will share the $122 million jackpot. There were two winners in Wednesday night's drawing.
The winning numbers were 1, 10, 13, 18, 19 and the Powerball 27. The winning ticket was sold at the Speedee Mart located near Highway 6 and Bryan Street in Gretna.
In addition to the jackpot winner, $10,000 winning tickets were sold at the Kwik Shop at 9545 Q Street in Omaha and at the U-Stop at 8231 O Street in Lincoln.
This was the 10th Powerball jackpot won in Nebraska since the Nebraska Lottery began offering Powerball in 1994.
Gretna’s Speedee Mart was buzzing on Thursday. Whenever someone walked in, the question was the same. Are you the winner”
Lou Cisar had to answer no.
“My wife said ‘someone from Gretna won,’ so I had to check my tickets."
Wendy Toogood sold the winning ticket on Wednesday. She does remember one guy saying he'd buy her a car if he won.
The store will get $50,000 for selling the ticket.
The co-owner, Theresa Gulizia, said, “I hope it's somebody local we know.”
If you're still dreaming big, Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is estimated to be $400 million.
