Mark Conrey explained that through two earlier tests in March, technicians had discovered a loose connection in the line that activates the sirens.

Wednesday, technicians were making repairs on that line when an electrical signal was unintentionally sent to the system activating all the sirens across the county.

Callers to the Channel 6 newsroom indicated that the sirens could be heard for a period of about five minutes.
