The $250 million jackpot had many of us dreaming this week. We asked what Channel 6 viewers would do if they won; answers varied from spending to saving and everything in between.
“It's definitely way more than we ever sell on a Wednesday,” said Bucky’s clerk Conrad Barber.
Barber has been busy, selling more than 100 tickets in six hours.
“This one is the winner, I swear,” said Matt Raauh.
He bought a ticket from Barber, hoping it was a winning ticket.
One Powerball ticket could be worth an estimated $250 million, $156 million after taxes. But the people we talked to say it's still a lot of money. So we took to the streets, asking how viewers would spend the money if they won.
“I'd buy a new one of everything I own and then I’d go fishing,” said one man.
“I would move to Europe and write books,” said one woman.
“I’d probably try and break that rule that you can't spend a million dollars in a day. I'd do it,” said another man.
“I'd buy an island and never come off of it,” said one woman.
“Invest it, that's what I think so buy a house maybe,” said Raauh.
But not everyone would spend it on themselves.
“Pay my parents debts, set up trust funds for my kids and grand kids. And then take a nice vacation somewhere,” said one man.
“I'd give it away, give a lot of it away to charity but I’d use some of it too,” said another woman.
But what happens if you have the winning ticket? Well, as hard as it sounds, don’t tell anyone until you contact an attorney. Read all the instructions and verify that your ticket is, in fact, a winning ticket.
