Wedding Ring Theft Case

Prison sentenced recommended for theft charges and others.

48-year-old Rodney Spangler of Lincoln, formerly of Plattsmouth, will be sentenced January 29th in Cass County District Court. He pled guilty this week to theft by receiving, a Class III Felony. In exchange for the plea, the state will not pursue adding habitual criminal charges against Spangler which would lengthen his prison time and the state dismissed one other theft charge. The prosecution and defense will jointly recommend a sentence of not less than 10 years and not more than 11 years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

The Cassgram reports Spangler, who has been in Cass County Jail since his arrest on August 18th, pled guilty to stealing a gold wedding ring set from a residence on North 11th Street in Plattsmouth. Deputy Cass County Attorney Steve Sunde said police were first notified of a “squatter” living in the backyard of the residence. Police learned Spangler had been released just five days earlier from the Sarpy County Jail. It was during the booking process that the wedding ring set was found in his possession and the investigation led to the discovery that the rings were missing from the house where Spangler was found.
