A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa through 6 p.m. Monday. A small but measurable amount of snow moved through the Omaha Metro early Monday snarling the morning commute traffic.
Anticipating the impact on the morning drive, the Channel 6 Weather Authority designated Monday as an Alert Day.
Numerous crashes were reported across the Metro as the commute began in earnest. By 7:30 interstates around the metro remained clogged but traffic was still moving.
The snow tapered off between 6 and 7 am leaving lingering flurries and a potential for some areas of freezing drizzle. Accumulation of one to two inches was expected in the metro with about three inches in areas north of Omaha.
From interstates to major roadways, police and paramedics had their hands full with accident reports. Some of them involved injuries, many didn't.
Near 84th & Dodge, one injury accident involved a snow plow. Early radio reports indicate a school bus was involved in a minor crash near 30th & Q.
Channel Six has crews out on the roads, and will continue to have the latest on traffic conditions throughout the morning.
Temperatures will rise to above freezing on Monday and wind is not expected to be a factor.
