Wanted Man Found In Hotel Room

After months of searching, Lincoln Police find a wanted man in a local hotel room.

Sunday morning, police caught up with 31-year-old Jeremy Hayes at the New Victorian Inn near 48th and O streets. Officers had been looking for him since November after a domestic assault.

According to police, officers surrounded the hotel room, and found Hayes opening a window and popping out the screen. They thought he might jump.

Instead, police say Hayes threw out a stocking cap with a semi-automatic handgun inside.

He was arrested a short time later.

"This could have ended up much worse than it did just because of the fact that he was armed. Fortunately he did decide to try and dispose of the gun. Obviously it could have been bad if he would have jumped from the window, escaped that way or been injured," Lincoln Police Sergeant Jeri Roeder said.

Police say a woman and young child were in the hotel room with Hayes. They also found a number of pills. He is facing charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, vandalism and two instances of domestic assault. He also had an outstanding warrant for possession of marijuana.
