After sitting empty for years, there are now plans to build a Walmart neighborhood market where the old Target store stood at Saddle Creek and Chicago in Omaha.
It will be a smaller version of a Walmart store, focusing on groceries. The new store would mean between 85 and 90 full and part-time jobs. "It does generate excitement for the neighborhood from that blighted site and I'm already hearing that from constituents who are excited about its redevelopment," said Omaha City Councilman Chris Jerram.
The City Council still most vote on the proposal. Work on the project could begin this fall.
