The single-elimination tournament does have some unusual rules. Your bottom has to be on the floor when you touch the ball. Sitting volleyball is a para-Olympic sport, but in this tournament everyone can play.
“Our big goal with integrating the able-bodied with the disabled is to hopefully increase that awareness because they might have a friend or family member who may unfortunately lose a limb as a result of injury, or cancer related reasons as well,” said tournament co-chair Jena Munson.
Munson said it is a way for everyone to stay active. Ten members of the men’s and women’s para-Olympic teams participated in the tournament along with a team from Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
