Car buffs from across the world converged on the northeast Nebraska town of Pierce this weekend for a vintage Chevrolet auction that included about 50 models with fewer than 20 miles on their odometers.
One man went home happy Sunday after buying the same car he sold to the dealer 60 years ago. "It looked like the same car and I figured it was and so then I came out and checked the VIN number when I got out here yesterday,” said Gerald Hixon. "Well, they matched."
The collection belonged to Ray Lambrecht and his wife, who ran the Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership from 1946 until their retirement in 1996. Lambrecht rarely sold cars or pickups that were more than a year old.
While most dealers lowered prices to move inventory, Lambrecht assumed the older cars would appreciate over time, so he stashed them in warehouses at his farm and in other places.
