Show And Tell Veterans Day

Veterans Day has been celebrated since the end of the First World War with speeches, wreaths and military parades. A group of kids in the Millard School District may change all that. Their idea was a sort of mash up of two traditions, Veterans Day and show and tell.

Students at Willowdale Elementary held a special Veterans Day celebration on Friday, combining it with the old elementary school standard of show and tell. The students introduced their fathers and grandfathers, mothers and sisters, each one of them a veteran and a hero in their own way.

Veterans Day at Willowdale began with the remembrance of those who did not return from the battlefield, but then quickly turned into a celebration of the veterans who returned and went to work and raised families. They all took center stage and were introduced by their loved ones.

Very different than when Vietnam era veterans returned home. "There wasn't anything like this celebration today to honor the veterans who were here and I think it is a wonderful event," said Warren Anthony.

All of the veterans received a handmade thank you note, were serenaded by a barber shop quartet, but the family aspect of the celebration stood out.
