An Antelope County, Nebraska jury found Matthew Hinrichsen guilty of two counts of first degree murder.
Hinrichsen, of Ewing, Nebraska, was charged in the deaths of his former girlfriend and her husband at their home in Ewing.
Prosecutors said Hinrichsen shot Alex Vargas three times and that Victoria Vargas died from blunt force trauma.
Investigators testified that after the couple died, Hinrichsen set their house on fire to cover up the crime.
On Friday, Hinrichsen took the stand in his own defense saying the shots that killed Alex Vargas were shot through a door.
Victoria Vargas once served on the city council in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She had recently married Alex before they were murdered.
