A benefit has been planned for a woman who lost everything in a fire that also destroyed her home.

A terminally ill woman woke up to flames in her Carter Lake home Saturday morning. Jennetta Guerrero, a friend, and their dogs barely escaped.

"Just fire everywhere. The windows blew out on us while we were running out of the house. I don't know what happened it just blew," Guerrero said.

Guerrero is living with her son and daughter-in-law for the time being. The mood around the house has been understandably emotional these past few days

"That's all I've known is that house. And to watch it go up and the windows burn out of it, I'm just grateful that my mom is okay," said Ricky Komor, Jennetta's son.

"It's horrible, she cries all the time," said April Komor, Jennetta's daughter-in-law.

The house is nearly a total loss, the fire taking many personal items with it as well. "I had pictures for everything, my whole life is gone," Guerrero said.

And for Guerrero, it's not just the physical things. The home held many memories of her husband, who was taken away from her too soon.

"He just died a year ago and now I don't have him and I don't have a house,"

A fund has been set up at all American National Bank Branches if you would like to help. Just donate to the Jennetta Guerrero Fire Fund.
