An Omaha mother keeps her phone close by in case her son calls. He's overseas serving in the Navy. Her phone has been ringing off the hook, but it's not her son on the other end of the line.
Kellie Ayers remembers the date these calls started coming in. It was 11/11/2011.
Ayers says, "I received 11 calls that day."
The caller was claiming to work for a government grant agency. He said they were giving out money-money you don't have to pay back.
Ayers says, "They said I can pick anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000."
Ayers, recognizing the government doesn't just give out money told them to stop calling. Instead, her phone started ringing even more. At one point, the calls were coming in every 1/2 hour.
"I would say I got 60 to 70 that week." said Ayers.
Ayers did some digging and found dozens of complaints online from consumers complaining about calls from the same phone number.
We contacted the number these calls were coming from. It's (773) 570-6321.
The operator told us the business name was "Your American Funding." She said no managers were available to talk to us. She also went on to say this company is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
We checked it out. There is a company that goes by the name "Your American Funding." It has an "F" rating with the BBB.
Ayers says the calls have finally stopped, but it should have never come to this.
"If I say take me off your list, then take me off your list." said Ayers.
