The 2004 Chevy Impala belonged to a grandmother who loaned it to her 17 year old granddaughter.
The granddaughter Kaitlyn Gray of Omaha said, “I was crying because it was my grandmother’s car and she let me borrow it so I felt so bad.”
Kaitlyn, her younger sister and friends stopped by the Wal-Mart in Papillion.
Police reviewed security camera video and it appears as if the car key came off a lanyard without them noticing. However a woman leaving store appears to point out the key laying in the parking lot to someone in a car.
One of them picked up the key and they drove around the parking lot to the grandmother’s car and took it.
The car was found abandoned on an Omaha street. It had been stripped. Papillion Detective Jessica Moore said, “They stripped it and used it for parts.”
The stolen car is owned by Christine Wagner. She said, “It makes us sick to look at it. We worked hard for our stuff then have somebody go in and yank stuff out of it.”
