For the second time within a month, Omaha will once again play host to a national sporting championship as the focus moves from baseball to golf.
Practice for the 2013 U.S. Senior Open started at 7 o’clock Monday morning at the Omaha Country Club, were the field of 156 professional and amateur golfers were set to arrive. Over 150,000 spectators are also expected to head out to the Omaha Country Club to find a seat amongst the galleries and catch a glimpse of some of the best golfers age 50 and older.
Event organizers said the facilities at the Omaha Country Club, including the grandstands; pavilions and the golf course were all ready to host both golfers and fans alike.
"General spectator parking is at the North Omaha Airport, which is north on 72nd street, so it is 2 ½ miles north of 680. Then there will be buses bring people in every 15 minutes, it should be very convenient, they will drop them off right at the main entrance and people will be able to walk right out on to the golf course,” Patrick Duffy, General Chairman of the 2013 U.S. Sr. Open said.
"I think Monday will be a fun day because the players will be a little more looser, signing autographs and fans can bring cameras on to the golf course and take some pictures, the players will interact with fans a little bit more because it is looser and they are just out getting to know the golf course,” Duffy said.
In fact, Duffy told Channel Six News, the USGA, the governing body of the tournament, determined a week out from play that the golf course could not be in more perfect shape.
