The estimated amount of fuel spilled in southeastern Nebraska this past weekend has been cut. On Saturday, someone operating a bulldozer for a landowner near Nemaha punctured two underground pipelines managed by Magellan Midstream Partners.

At first, it was believed 252,000 gallons of fuel spilled. Magellan says the actual release was 119,028 gallons. Magellan broke down the numbers further: 27,300 gallons of diesel fuel, 27,510 gallons of jet fuel, and 64,218 gallons of gasoline.

Magellan reports that its representatives remained on the scene Tuesday along with petroleum remediation specialists and regulators.

Magellan spokesman Bruce Heine reiterated that the incident could have been prevented if the bulldozer operator had called the Nebraska One-Call center at 811 before excavating in the area near the pipelines.
