Two University of Nebraska at Omaha professors have been nominated for the 2015 Pushcart Prize, a nationally recognized award given to the best creative works published by small press outlets.
Miles Waggener, associate professor in the UNO Writer’s Workshop, and Art Homer, professor in the Writer’s Workshop, are both nominated for the award and inclusion in an annual collection of winning works, which will be published next November.
The Pushcart Prize was established in 1976 and celebrates short stories, poetry and essays published within the past calendar year.
Waggener is nominated for his poem, “Minimart,” which was published in a 2013 issue of “I-70 Review,” and Homer is nominated for “A Discussion in the Woods,” which was published in the book “Yonder Mountain” by the University of Arkansas Press.
Waggener was nominated for the award by the editorial staff of “I-70 Review” while Homer’s nomination came from poet laureate of Missouri Bill Trowbridge (2012 – 2014).
Nominations for the Pushcart Prize were accepted through Dec. 1 with winners being announced in May 2014.
