A two-vehicle crash late Sunday afternoon brought Cass County sheriff’s deputies and Weeping Water and Avoca fire and rescue volunteers to the intersection of Highway 34 and 132nd Street near Avoca.
The Cassgram reports that Sheriff William C. Brueggemann says a 2004 Volkswagen Passat driven by Karina Balakhonova, age 30, of Lincoln was headed north on 132nd Street, did not stop at the stop sign and turned west onto Highway 34. A 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by Earl Betts, age 59, with passenger Luanna Betts, age 46, both of Nebraska City, was traveling east on Highway 34.
The vehicles collided, causing heavy front end damage to both vehicles.
Luanna Betts was transported to Bryan LGH West with injuries. All other parties were checked at the scene.
Balakhonova was cited for failure to stop, says Brueggemann. All parities were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor. The investigation is complete.
