A trip across country lands two Las Vegas men in jail when deputies find drugs in their cars.
Lancaster County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Gregory Whittemore and Jordan Arnold Tuesday night on several drug charges.
Just before 10:30 P.M., Sheriff Terry Wagner says a deputy spotted a speeding car on I-80 near. He says the car headed south on Highway 77. The deputy noticed two cars were traveling together, so he called another deputy for back up.
When the deputies stopped the cars, Wagner says the driver opened the door to retrieve the car's rental agreement. That's when the deputy noticed an odor of burnt marijuana.
Wagner says a search of the car revealed loose marijuana, blunts, dollar bills with a white residue and an empty gun case. The driver told the deputy the gun was in the other car.
When deputies searched that car, they found a .45 caliber Glock handgun under a bag containing 1.6 ounces of marijuana. Wagner says they also found a duffle bag with 32.86 pounds of high grade marijuana.
"This is just another example of the amount of narcotics being transported through this area, from west to east. I suspect we will see more of this as marijuana laws become less restrictive in other states," Wagner said.
Whittemore is facing charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of firearm during a drug violation and carrying a concealed weapon.
Arnold was arrested for possession with intent to deliver and possession of paraphernalia
Wanger says the men told the deputies they were hauling marijuana across the country to make money.
