Omaha police said speed and alcohol were factors in a fiery crash that injured a man and woman Saturday morning.
Investigators said an SUV was racing with another vehicle near 42nd and G streets around 2 a.m. Witnesses said the SUV was heading south on 42nd, struck a retaining wall, went off the road and caught fire.
The driver, 19-year-old Daniel Estrada, and his passenger, 21-year-old Kiera-Lynn House, were hurt. Estrada was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the SUV. A third person in the vehicle refused medical attention.
OPPD came out because a live power line was down around the vehicle. “That might be a reason why the car caught fire between the power and actual accident,” said OPD Sgt. Jason Menning. “The vehicle actually left the roadway and possibly flipped and ended up in a chain link fence."
