The driver of a dump truck tells crash investigators that he did not see a train coming his way when he crossed a set of tracks near Plattsmouth Tuesday afternoon. He escaped being injured after colliding with the train. His trailer ended up in bad shape.

The incident was reported at 2 p.m. at the entrance of Lyman Richey sand pit, north of Plattsmouth. Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann reports that 69-year-old Ardean Hagerbaumer of Arlington was driving a 1998 Mack dump truck and pulling a 1998 Cornhusker pup trailer. The driver attempted to accelerate to get out of the train’s path, but the BNSF freight train struck the rear corner of the pup trailer.

The trailer overturned & broke its tongue connection to the truck. Hagerbaumer was cited for Railroad Crossing Violation.
