Trevor’s Surprise Birth

A family was celebrating a new member Friday. While Trevor Andrew Lee's mom and dad have been ready for his birth for several weeks, his entry was nothing like what the family expected.

Sara Lee was resting peacefully Friday afternoon at Methodist Women's Hospital with husband Chris at her side. It was where the entire birth was supposed to play out, but baby Trevor had other plans in mind.

To say that life is what happens while plans are being made would be an understatement for the Lee family. Chris and Sara have been expecting a boy. The pains of the pregnancy were taking its toll on mom. "I've had a lot of excruciating back pain all week, went into the doctor thinking I was going to labor on Tuesday," Sara said.

A false alarm, but the doctor supplied more painkillers. The pain was a normal feeling by Friday morning. Sara had been suffering through sleepless nights and tried resting.

"Okay, something is definitely going wrong and I’m like what is that and yeah, that was his head trying to pop through, within seconds he was out,” Sara said.

The baby was born at 8:55 a.m. Friday inside the Lee’s home. After calling 911, Sara called Chris. "He's like is it time to go, I was like yeah, it's a little bit more than time to go, he's actually already here. Yeah, eight pounds, two ounces, 22 inches long."

By 9:09 a.m., mom and baby were on the way to the hospital. Dad was following with the rest of the baby gear. A panicked moment at the start of the day turned into a great story among family.

"We've been prepared, we just didn't know it was going to come like this," said Sara. "That's what I said, we had a birth plan, we had a car seat in the car, we had my bag, (toys) ready to go, just wasn't on the agenda to deliver at home and be over eight pounds."

The family jokes they'll now be on Trevor time. "It will be nice to see more of his personality come out as he gets a little older, next spring out comes the baseballs,” a family member said.

He might have your chin a little bit,” Sara said. “I'm okay with that,” Chris replied. “He's got my eyes right now but that may change,” Sara joked.
