Omaha-based TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. says trading activity slipped 6% in February, but its total client assets grew and topped $500 billion for the first time.
Ameritrade said Monday it handled an average of 386,000 trades per day in February, which was 6% lower than last year. But trading activity was relatively flat with this January.
TD Ameritrade CEO Fred Tomczyk praised the growth in total client assets, which reached $502.5 billion in February. That's 14% higher than last year and 1% higher than January.
Tomczyk says holding more than $500 billion shows the company's efforts to attract more client assets have been working.
The company's monthly activity statistics give the market an idea of investors' mood.
