Quarry Oaks near Ashland will host an American Junior Golf Association event for the second consecutive year, as 78 of the nation’s top junior golfers will compete in the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks, Aug. 8-11.
The inaugural event in 2010 was the AJGA’s first tournament in the state. Andrew Holloway of Scottsbluff, Neb., posted a 3-over-par 216 total and finished ninth, which was best among the 16 Nebraska boys competing in the event. Lorens Chan of Honolulu recorded a 4-under-par 209 total en route to his second career AJGA victory, while Somin Lee of Lone Tree, Colo., won the Girls Division with an even-par 213 total.
Tournament tee times will run from 7 – 9:30 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at Quarry Oaks Tuesday, Aug. 9, through Thursday, Aug. 11. An awards ceremony will immediately follow Thursday’s final round. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free.
Prior to the event, an 18-hole TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier will be held Sunday, Aug. 7, at Quarry Oaks. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to “play their way in” to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or build status for entry into a future event. The TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.
During the tournament week, some of the top juniors participating in the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks will also take part in the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, Monday, Aug. 8. The Junior-Am will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Quarry Oaks.
