A theft near Elmwood last year resulted in appearances by two men in Cass County District Court this week.
The Cassgram reports Deputy Cass County Attorney Richard Fedde said the two men took a large amount of steel. (The arrest warrant affidavit said over 3,600 pounds.) They took steel to a recycling operation in Alvo over a week’s period in May. The recycling center operator noted special markings on the steel and it was determined the product had been stolen from Quality Fabrication of rural Elmwood.
The theft loss amount was determined to be $1,899.
As part of their respective plea arrangements, the men involved agreed to restitution in that amount.
23-year-old Dylan Whiting of Eagle has already paid his half, said Fedde. Whiting pled guilty this week to a Class I Misdemeanor of theft by receiving. He will be sentenced April 14th.
20-year-old Randy A. Abbott of Lincoln was sentenced to 15 months probation this week on his misdemeanor conviction. His bond money is to be applied to the restitution and he agreed to payments to pay off the rest. Abbott was also fined $200.
