Toddler Escapes Injury

A woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash; however, the toddler in her vehicle was uninjured due to proper safety restraints.

The Cassgram reports Cass County sheriff’s deputies, Plattsmouth Police, Plattsmouth Fire, Plattsmouth EMS and Bellevue Fire and Rescue responded to the accident at the intersection of School Road and Highway 75 at 2pm Thursday.

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann said the investigation determined a northbound vehicle on Highway 75 (that was not involved in the collision) was attempting to turn left (west) onto School Road when a 2008 Toyota Highlander driven by Diana Vavra, age 54 of Plattsmouth, also northbound, failed to stop for the turning vehicle. The Vavra vehicle swerved to the left and attempted to pass the stopped vehicle, colliding head-on with a southbound Oldsmobile Silhouette van driven by Stephanie Strange, age 32, also of Plattsmouth.

Stephanie Strange was transported to Bellevue Medical Center. A toddler in the Strange vehicle was restrained in a child’s car seat and was uninjured. Vavra was not injured and was not transported.

Vavra was issued a citation to appear in Cass County Court for reckless driving and driving left of center, said Brueggemann.
