WOWT 6 News has learned seven metro Omaha and Lincoln CVS pharmacies received threatening phone calls Friday afternoon. Police investigated and found there was no immediate threat.
According to Douglas County dispatchers, threatening calls were made to CVS locations at 107th and Fort, 90th and Blondo and 132nd and West Center in Omaha, one in La Vista at 84th and Harrison and three in Lincoln.
The first call was received just after 1 p.m. The others followed within an hour. Omaha police said the bomb squad was en route to the location at 90th and Blondo, but once they realized there was no suspicious package, they were called off.
WOWT 6 News spoke with the CVS Corporate Office. Mike DeAngelis, director of public relations, said stores across the country have been targeted by a series of attempts to fraudulently obtain money using pre-paid cards or wire transfers by calling stores with false bomb threats. DeAngelis said each call is taken seriously and they are cooperating with law enforcement.
