A thief is caught on camera after stealing a camera from the Douglas County Sheriff's office. The man followed the law by registering but broke another by stealing a $300 digital camera.
Donald Riley was arrested for misdemeanor theft. In Douglas County Jail, he told Channel Six News Fact Finders, "I snatched it but it wasn't like I was trying to sell it cause I still got it."
Riley accompanied, by his girlfriend, had been left alone for several minutes in an interview room at the Douglas County Law Enforcement Center.
A sheriff's employee left the room to get paperwork Riley must file for the State Sex Offender's registry.
A small security camera in the interview room caught him grabbing the digital camera off a table. Later, the employee noticed it missing and reviewing the tape he saw Riley putting it in his pocket.
Chief Deputy Marty Bilek said, "Its the most brazen theft I've seen in 37 years.
Riley told Fact Finders, "I got people on the outside that are getting the camera and taking it back."
Riley is serving 90 days for theft of the camera
