The Difference Made By Foster Care

Allison was only 22-months-old when she was taken from her home and placed in foster care.

"The children that you can take into your life and into your family can bring an immense amount of joy," said Allison's adoptive mother, Brooke Eggert.

Brooke Eggert was amoung the many in attendence at an awareness event hosted by the Nebraska Families Collaborative on Wednesday evening. The event celebrated National Foster Care month. In addition to being Allison's adoptive mom, her family has also fostered more than 43 kids.

"For me and my kids it has opened our eyes to the needs of our community," said Eggert.

A need Sierra Valentine knows all too well. She was five when she was taken out of an abusive home and was never adopted.

Valentine is currently a member of Project Everlast. She is helping others who have aged out of the foster care system.

Both Valentine and Eggert urge families to at least seek out information about fostering our communities children and teens. Eggert says it's the hardest job, you'll ever love.
