The search is on for three teens that ran from Omaha police after the car they were in was pulled over Sunday afternoon. It turns out the vehicle was carjacked an hour earlier. One of the young suspects was captured by police.
The one that didn't get away was taken to police headquarters where officers will figure out who he is and try to find out the names of the three who escaped.
Officers say during chase the four fleeing teens were already altering their appearance. "They were running around the liquor store, there was a foot pursuit going on before he was apprehended just to the east of the interstate," said OPD Lt. Mark Matuza. "He was taking his clothes off."
Officers also recovered two sweatshirts and a cap in the area. All are believed to belong to the suspects.
It all started in the area of 66th and Ames where police say three young men approached a man as he sat in his car. They pulled out a gun, forced him out and drove off with his vehicle. The car was recovered and will be checked for prints, but the search for the three other suspects was called off. There were too many places, from small wooded areas to abandoned houses, for the young men to hide.
"There are a lot of people out and about, it's a nice day and there are a lot of abandoned houses like you mentioned, so we've got a lot of things against us right now, but fortunately someone from the neighborhood said he's running to the east and he has a gun, so that helped us out a lot," said Lt. Matuza."
The most disturbing part of this story is that there may be a gun hidden in that neighborhood around 30th and Pinkney. Police could not find it.
It is possible one of the other teens has it, but it could also be hidden in some bushes outside one of the homes in the area.
