15-year-old Brandon Lunsford says he's grateful just to be alive after he and his cousin were held up at gunpoint on Saturday night in Council Bluffs.
Lunsford says he was walking with his cousin, David, to a friend's home near 19th Street and 6th Avenue when a car pulled up beside them.
“These two guys approached us and asked to borrow my cousin's phone and then that's when the guy pulls out a gun,” says Lunsford.
16-year-old Richard Dawson is accused of pulling out a gun and pointing it at David. Dawson reportedly told the pair to give him everything they had.
The two say they gave Dawson cigarettes, a phone, and $20. After the guys took off, Lunsford and his cousin ran to their friend's house and called 911.
Council Bluffs police found the suspected robbers at a convenience store on 35th & Broadway at just 10 minutes after the incident.
Dawson had been the victim of a shooting himself back in November, when he was shot in the leg in Omaha. He was arrested for the robbery, but his accomplice managed to get away.
Brandon's mother, Rhonda, says she's scared that one of the suspects is still out there.
Rhonda says, “I’m worried that somebody might come and try and get him or something and it might happen again.”
She has one message for the suspected gunman, “Why did you choose my boys? Is this the way you want to spend your life locked up for doing something stupid?"
Lunsford says he's just happy no one was hurt. “I’m just grateful that I'm alive, because the money and stuff can be replaced, my life couldn't be," said Lunsfod.
Council Bluffs police are working to identify the other man who was with Richard Dawson.
16-year-old Richard Dawson was charged as an adult for first degree robbery, which carries up to 25-years in prison.
