A Treynor, Iowa teenager was sentenced Thursday to two weeks in jail for assault and two years probation for false imprisonment/assault causing bodily injury as part of a plea agreement in connection to a kidnapping and sexual assault investigation.
The plea agreement was reached two weeks ago in the case against 17-year-old Kreighton Elwood, who was accused of kidnapping and assaulting four girls last year while a student at Treynor High School.
He was initially charged as an adult, facing a felony kidnapping charge and two counts of third-degree sexual assault. Those charges stemmed from accusations made by two girls. Elwood also faced charges from two other alleged victims, but those cases were deferred to juvenile court. A conviction on the kidnapping charge could have resulted in a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Elwood will also have to complete a counseling course as part of his sentencing.
He is the son of Treynor Community Schools Superintendent Kevin Elwood.
