Cemetery Vandal To Serve Sentence In Shifts Over Four Years

The Saronville, Nebraska teen convicted of vandalizing a cemetery last summer was sentenced Friday to 180 days in jail.

Eighteen-year-old Robert Kelly Jr. will serve 60 days immediately, then serve the rest of his sentence split up in 2015, 2016 and 2017 starting on the anniversary of the crime, August 19th.

A neighbor discovered more than 40 headstones cracked, broken and knocked over at Farmers Valley Cemetery near Henderson.

Kelly will also be on probation for five years and have to pay $10,000 in restitution. The cemetery association said it could cost as much as $40,000 to repair the damage.
