A 16-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to attacking another student in a bathroom at Lincoln's Pius X High School.
Sarah Piccolo allegedly used a knife and hammer in the assault on 17-year-old Ellen Kopetzky October 7th. Piccolo fled and was arrested the next day in Kansas.
Kopetzky has since returned to school after facial surgery and a brief stay in a Lincoln hospital. Police and school officials have said they've found no direct connection between the two girls.
Piccolo waived her right to appear for arraignment in Lancaster County District Court and made the pleas to felony charges of assault and use of a deadly weapon. The prosecution asked for a $50,000 bond, but the judge set a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, meaning she will not have to pay anything as long as she shows up to all future court dates. Piccolo is expected back in court on November 6th.
