Tax Breaks For Donated Food

The Iowa Senate has approved a bill that would give funding to food banks and give tax breaks to farmers who donate produce.

The bill would give an incentive for operators of small farms to donate produce by giving them a 15 percent state income tax break on the market values of their donations worth less than 5, 000 dollars.

Critics argue donations should be the work of charity, not state dollars.

The measure now moves to the house.
