The Nebraska Humane Society says its Omaha shelter is so full of cats that it's waiving some adoption fees. Cats six months or older are free on Friday and kittens are available, two for the price of one.
Omaha and Sarpy County residents will have to pay the city’s license fee.
The cats are spayed or neutered as well as microchipped and vaccinated. The shelter currently has 115 cats ready for adoption and needs to free up kennels for incoming cats. There are dozens more at partnering pet stores.
Officials think road construction on Fort Street has discouraged some adopters. Adoption hours Friday at the shelter located near 90th and Fort streets are from noon to 7 p.m.
