The help of citizens led to the arrests of those believed responsible for cattle shootings and other drive-by shooting incidents last week.
The Cassgram reports Sheriff Brueggemann said the dispatch center received a call Thursday from a witness who observed someone shooting a gun out of a window of a blue Ford pickup. The caller stated the pickup may be the vehicle that was involved in the shooting of cows earlier in the week south of Murray.
The communications center then received another call from a cattle owner who was following a blue pickup north on 12th Street and nearing Murray. Deputies stopped the vehicle at Highway 75 and Highway 1.
The driver was identified as Jeffrey J. Ivey, age 18, Omaha and the passenger was a 15-year-old male from Omaha.
Subsequent interviews conducted at the sheriff’s office revealed their involvement in the shooting of five cows that occurred on Tuesday (12/28), said Brueggemann. Three of the cows were killed and two were injured.
There were other incidents in which firearms were shot at signs and objects along roadways.
