Suspected Serial Shoplifter Hit Metro Stores

A suspected serial shoplifter hit at least a half dozen Omaha and Council Bluffs metro stores. Fact Finders uncovered that the suspect is a parolee released just weeks earlier.

Police arrested 43 year old Anthony Q Perkins who faces several charges of felony shoplifting. Fact Finders learned that in January and early February Perkins alleged shoplifted six expensive Dyson vacuums that retail for about $600 each. Video shows a man matching Perkin's description rushing out of the Shopko in Council Bluffs with two of the vacuums, while security alarms sound. He escaped in a vehicle with no plates.

Loss prevention investigators across the metro tell Fact Finders the suspect took vacuums from two other stores. He also allegedly shoplifted electronics and clothes.

Numerous items found in a storage unit near 84th and L. Investigators led there by Perkin's phone conversations from jail asking someone to move items for him from the storage unit.

One investigator found evidence that Perkins had been selling merchandise on line.

Perkins was arrested after a foot chase with Scheels loss prevention. He had dozens of stolen team jerseys. Inside the car he had been driving loss prevention found about 75 folded shipping boxes.

Fact Finders checked Perkins record and found numerous previous arrests for shoplifting a a an 18-30 month sentence for felony shoplifting starting July 2102. About five months later Perkins is released on parole. Its alleged he began his latest shoplifting spree only weeks after his release on parole from Nebraska Corrections.

Members of the Nebraska Parole board were unavailable for comment Monday. Perkins declined a request for a jailhouse interview.

Shopko spokesperson Tara Powers sent Fact Finders a statement.

"Loss prevention is a top of mind concern for all retailers and Shopko takes a number of measures to protect our merchandise in order to continue to be able to offer our customers great value. This includes using closed circuit television and surveillance cameras, as well as product protection measures such as electronic tags, locked merchandise cases and spider wrap.

We have found the most important thing we can do is educate our teammates on what to look for both to prevent theft and to keep our customers safe. We also work with local law enforcement and other retailers to identify problem offenders or serial shoplifters."
