An Omaha man has been arrested for a series of suspicious substance mailings in the metro including several to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's office.
Frank Donald Hytrek has been booked on a misdemeanor harassment charge.
The sheriff's department began receiving the mailings on May 30th. More of them followed on June 3, June 4, June 19 and July 10.
Some of the envelopes contained powders; others contained liquids. Testing eventaully proved them to be non-toxic.
Hytrek was identified as a suspect and initially interviewed in Omaha on July 8. He was interviewed again on September 6 and he has now admitted sending the packages to the sheriff's office and other metro locations.
Authorities considered charging Hytrek with terrorism but the facts of the case didn't support that charge under Iowa law. He's facing five misdemeanor harassment charges.
